Learn to Access Web Disk in cPanel

You can manage your website files right from your computer without going to cPanel every time. Web Disk helps you do that. It gives you a simple way to connect your computer and your hosting account, just like they are part of one system.

Moreover, Web Disk lets you open, move and even download files straight from your computer. You can also upload anything to your server without any confusion. You can do all this just like you manage files on your own computer. Also, the drag-and-drop feeling makes everything easier.

Further, it lets you go through your folders and website files like you are just browsing your normal drives. You do not need to open your browser or sign in again and again. You get to work with your files in a way that feels quick and familiar. All in all, Web Disk makes your file management smooth and comfortable.

Let’s go through the step-wise process of setting up, accessing and using Web Disk in cPanel.

How to Set Up Web Disk in cPanel in a Simple Way

Let’s say you want to move files between your computer and your website hosting space. Also, you want it to feel like working on your own computer. Web Disk in cPanel gives you that option.

We will go through the setup part, step by step, in an easy and understandable way.

  1. First, you need to enter your cPanel. You do this using your login credentials given by your hosting provider.
  2. Then, scroll down a little. You will see a section called ‘Files’. Inside that, you will find ‘Web Disk’. Click on it.
  3. When you open Web Disk, you will notice that cPanel has already created one Web Disk account for you. This account is ready to use. Well, it uses the same login ID and password that you use to sign in to cPanel. This default account gets access to all your main folders in the hosting account.
  4. Now, to start using the Web Disk properly, you will need to set it up on your device. On the same page, look for something called ‘Configure Client Access’. Click on that. This opens another page with more settings.
Here, you have to select the operating system that your computer is using. That means, whether you are on Windows or macOS or something else, just choose that one.
Sometimes the system already detects your OS and shows a message. If that happens, just click on that message. It will show you some simple steps on how to continue.
  5. After you pick the correct system, you will see a button that says ‘Download Configuration Script’. This script is important. Click that button and your system will start downloading a small file. That file usually goes to your Downloads folder. You can keep the file there, or if you want quicker access, you can shift it to your desktop or any other easy location.
  6. Now, when you want to use Web Disk, you have to run the downloaded file. Just double-click on it. A box will appear asking for permission to open it. Click ‘Open’.
  7. After this, a File Explorer window will open on its own. Here, you will be asked to log in. If you are using the default Web Disk account, then just use the same username and password you use for cPanel. But if you had made a new Web Disk account earlier, then you have to use those specific login details.
  8. Enter the username and password in the box and press ‘OK’.
  9. Once you are in, the Web Disk folder appears just like a regular folder on your computer. You can now easily move files between your computer and your server. Just drag the file and drop it in. That’s it.

You don’t need to open the browser again and again. You don’t need to log in every time. Also, Web Disk makes it all feel like local work, even though the files are going to your online server.
