How to Set Up OpenVPN to Connect and Access IPMI?
STEP 1: Configure OpenVPN Client
1. Launch the OpenVPN Client
- Open the OpenVPN application on your desktop or laptop. If not installed, download it from the : https://openvpn.net/client/
2. Import the VPN Profile
- Click on the profile icon or the import option.
Either :
- Browse and select the .ovpn configuration file, or
- Drag and drop the file directly into the OpenVPN client.
3. Enter VPN Credentials
- In the Username field, enter the Any VPN username.
- In the Password field, enter your VPN password.
- Click on Connect to initiate the connection.
4. Enter One-Time Password (OTP)
You will now be prompted for a 6-digit OTP (One-Time Password) for Multi-Factor Authentication.
- Open the Google Authenticator app on your mobile device.
- Locate the VPN profile and enter the current 6-digit code shown.
- Click OK or Submit.
STEP 2: Set Up Google Authenticator (One-Time Password App)
1. Install Google Authenticator on Your Mobile
- Open the Google Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS).
- Search for “Google Authenticator” by Google LLC.
- Download and install the app on your mobile device.
2. Add a New Authentication Key
- Open the Google Authenticator app.
- Tap the “+” (Add) icon.
- Select “Enter a setup key”.
3. Enter VPN Authentication Details
- Account name: Enter any descriptive name (e.g., “Company VPN”).
- Your key: Enter the secret key provided by your administrator.
- Tap Add to finish setup.
4. Use the Generated OTP
- The app will now generate a 6-digit OTP, which refreshes every Few seconds.
- Use this OTP whenever prompted during VPN login for two-factor authentication.
VPN Connection Successful
Once the correct OTP is entered and verified:
- The VPN connection will be established.
- The OpenVPN client will display a “Connected” status.
- You can now securely access IPMI, RDP servers, or any internal network services as permitted.
