1. Open Chrome and Type ‘Blocksite’ to search. You can also go to the Chrome Web Store.
2. Open ‘Blocksite’ and you will see the below screen. Click on ‘Add to Chrome’.
3. Now, you will see the below screen. Click on ‘Add to Chrome’.
4. Next, an extension is added to Chrome and you can pin it and then click on the shortcut from the top right corner of the browser.
5. Go to the Website that you want to block. Click on the Extension and ‘Block this site’.
The site will be blocked and when you try to visit it, it will appear as below –
Alternatively, you can visit the ‘Blocksite’ website and add the URL of the sites that you would like to block.
There are also other options like ‘Redirect’ and ‘Schedule’.
Blocksite also offers other features like –

Method 1 – Block Websites on Chrome via iPhone and Android using ‘Google Family Link’
You can block a site on iPhone and Android Chrome through ‘Google Family Link’ – a parental control feature for parents to control certain content from their children on the phone.
Basically, you can find this from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
You can connect the Google account of the children to the parent’s phone. Well, some features may differ between iOS and Android mobile.
Go to the child’s account and further to Manage Settings.
Then, go to Filters on Google Chrome>Manage Sites>Blocked>Add an Exception. Insert domain/URL to block and tap on ‘Save’.
Moreover, iPhone users can use the ‘Screen Time function’ to restrict or limit access to apps, downloads, settings, purchases, etc.
Method 2 – Block Websites on Chrome via iPhone and Android using ‘Screen Time’
From privacy settings, tap on ‘Screen Time’ and then on ‘Turn on Screen Time’.
Tap on it again as prompted.

Editing hosts file on Windows on Chrome To Block Sites

- The hosts file is available at ‘C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc.’ You can open the same through Notepad, Nano, or any other text editor.
- Type localhost IP address / 127.0.0.1 after the ‘#’ to add the new line. And, add domain names in each new line that you want to block.
- ‘Save’ the file (but not in .txt format)
- Verify if the sites are blocked in the Chrome.
Editing the Hosts file on MacOS to Block Web Pages
Below are the steps to block websites by editing the hosts file on MacOS –
- Go to Utilities tab > Terminal
- Type ‘sudo nano/etc/hosts.’ in the command bar to open hosts file in nano using the administrator’s password.
- It will look like the one we discussed for ‘Windows’ with multiple lines. So as discussed in those steps, enter the local host IP address in the next line > Press Tab > Add domain name/s to block in each new line.
- Press CMD + O to save and exit with CMD + X.
- Verify if they are blocked in Chrome.
How Blocking Websites on Chrome Work through Your Router
When you block websites using a router it will block them on all of the devices connected to it. Below are the steps for this method –
- Get into the admin panel using the IP address from the box of the router. (You can also access it from the Command prompt of your Windows computer by typing ‘ipconfig’. When you press enter you will see your IP address in the ‘Default gateway’ section.)
- Go to Chrome and enter the IP address in the search tab.
- Open the router’s panel using the login credentials of the admin.

How to unblock websites on Chrome?

BlockSite Extension on Chrome
On the desktop – Click on Blocksite extension icon > ‘Edit block list’ > ‘Trash’ icon with the site you want to unblock
On the Chrome – Open the App and go to Blocked Site List > Tap on the ‘Trash’ icon
Parental Control On Windows
