Learn to Work with Feature Lists in WHM

Controlling what your clients see in their cPanel is a great way to manage your hosting service. You can hide or show specific tools based on the plan they buy from you.

Definition of a Feature List

A Feature List is a collection of specific tools that you enable for a cPanel user. It allows you to decide if a user can access things like the File Manager or email settings. You can create different lists for basic users and professional users.

This system helps you create distinct hosting tiers with different levels of access. It keeps the cPanel interface clean for beginners by hiding advanced technical tools.

How to Create a New Feature List

You can build a custom set of features through the WHM dashboard very easily. This process helps you define exactly what your customers can use.

Follow these steps to set up your first list of features.

  • Enter your administrative credentials to access the main WHM dashboard.
  • Find the Packages menu and select the Feature Manager option.
  • Type a unique name in the Add a New Feature List box.
  • Press the Add button to start choosing your tools.
  • Tick the boxes for tools like phpMyAdmin or File Manager.
  • Scroll to the bottom and click Save to store your settings.

Linking Feature Lists to Packages

A feature list does not work alone and it must connect to a hosting package first. This link ensures that every new account gets the right tools automatically.

You must edit your existing packages to apply these new permissions.

  • Go to the Packages section and click on Edit a Package.
  • Pick the plan you want to update from the list.
  • Go to the bottom of the page to find the Settings area.
  • Select your new feature list from the dropdown menu.
  • Click the Save Changes button to update the package.

Changing a User Package

Sometimes you need to move a user to a different plan with more or fewer features. This modification changes their entire resource limit and tool access at once.

The process happens through the account management section of your server.

  • Search for Modify an Account under the Account Functions menu.
  • Choose the specific user account and click the Modify button.
  • Find the Package row and click the Change button.
  • Pick the new package and click Upgrade/Downgrade to finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I disable the File Manager for certain users?

Yes you can uncheck the File Manager box in your Feature List. The user will not see that icon in their cPanel dashboard anymore. This is helpful for restricted hosting plans.

Will my existing users get new features automatically?

Yes all users on a specific package get the updates instantly. You only need to save the changes in the Feature Manager. The system updates every linked cPanel account at once.

Can I create a list specifically for email-only accounts?

You can select only email-related tools while creating the list. This prevents users from accessing databases or website files. It is a common practice for simple mail hosting services.

Is there a limit to how many feature lists I can make?

WHM allows you to create as many unique lists as you need. You can name them according to your different pricing tiers. This helps you stay organized as your client base grows.
