How To Create Virtual Directory In Plesk?

Using a virtual directory in Plesk allows you to host content in a separate directory without having to create an entirely new domain or subdomain. It essentially creates a new ‘alias’ to a directory on your server giving you the ability to keep your web applications and/or media files organized.

Log into Plesk.

Find the domain where you want to add the virtual directory and select ‘Virtual Directories’.

Navigate to the parent directory where you want to add the new directory.

Select the option ‘Create Virtual Directory’.

In the Virtual Directory section, add a name for your new directory in the ‘Name’ text box.

Check the ‘Path’ box to have Plesk create a new physical directory with the same name as the virtual directory. You can uncheck this box and specify the path to an existing physical directory.

Check the box for ‘Script source access’ in case you want to allow users to access the source code if read and write permissions are turned on.

To allow users to view file details and their associated properties check the box under “Read permission”.

To prevent users from uploading files to the virtual directory or from editing existing files that are write-enabled, check the box under “Write permission”.

To allow users to view an index of the files and folders in the virtual directory, check the box under “Directory browsing”.

To record and store the details of the users who access the virtual directory, check the box under “Log visits”.

In the “Application Settings” section, check the “Create application” box to make the directory an IIS application. When this option is selected, the directory is treated independently from the website.

From the list box under “Execute permissions” choose the level of program execution that is required for your virtual directory.

Finally, click “OK”.

Conclusion

Setting up a virtual directory is a simple process and provides great flexibility in how web content and applications are managed. Following the above instructions will allow you to keep your URLs simple while your files are organized in the structure you desire on the backend. Your new directory will be accessible right after you finish the setup.
